The total supply of 1,000,000,000 TIP is divided into seven allocations, and each allocation is held by its own vesting contract. Circulating supply at TGE is 5%, and the rest unlocks over 60 months on a fixed schedule. This chapter explains the rationale for each allocation, the release formula and the cap on circulating supply over time.

Figure 29. The 1 billion TIP are split into seven allocations: Ecosystem is the largest at 40%, Foundation holds 20%, and the other five hold 5–10% each.

The planned use of each allocation is as follows. Concrete execution criteria are published for each program. Ecosystem (40%) is the largest allocation and goes to the people who use and grow Ti. Mission and community rewards, user incentives and ecosystem grants come from it. Nothing is released for the first 3 months after TGE; from month 4, the same amount is released every month over 48 months, so reward funding arrives at the pace the service grows. Foundation (20%) funds the protocol’s long-term development and operations, security audits and reserves. It unlocks over 48 months after a 12-month cliff, so not a single token reaches the market in the first year after TGE. Private Sale (10%) is sold to early participants. It unlocks over 10 months after a 6-month cliff. The sale terms are in Section 12.7. Liquidity & MM (10%) is used for exchange liquidity and market making. It is the only allocation with tokens released at TGE: half (50,000,000 TIP) is released at TGE, and the other half over 12 months. The entire 5% circulating supply at TGE comes from this allocation. Team (10%) belongs to the people who build Ti Protocol. It unlocks over 36 months after a 12-month cliff. The team’s first TIP unlocks in month 13 after TGE. Marketing (5%) is used for campaigns and user growth. It unlocks in equal monthly amounts over 24 months, with no cliff. Partnership (5%) is used for integrations and joint programs with chain, wallet, issuer and service partners. It unlocks over 24 months after a 6-month cliff.

2. Seven vesting contracts

Each allocation has its own contract so that allocations never mix. At deployment, each contract received the default terms of its allocation (TGE share, cliff and linear monthly release period) as immutable values. Individual beneficiary schedules can be created inside a contract, but no schedule can be made to release faster than those default terms, or to start before that allocation’s TGE. The curve drawn from an allocation’s default terms is therefore the upper bound on releases. Actual circulating supply is at or below this bound. Releases of the contract as a whole cannot be halted. Anyone can call release to send out the tokens that have become due, and whoever calls it, the tokens go only to that schedule’s beneficiary. No function stops all releases in a contract at once. The only related function freezes a single schedule for compliance reasons, for at most 72 hours (Chapter 14).

3. Release formula

Every vesting contract computes the unlocked (vested) amount with the same formula. The symbols are defined as follows.
  • A: total amount of the schedule, g: TGE share, c: cliff (months), v: linear release period (months)
  • T: actual start of the schedule; the later of the allocation’s TGE and the start date set in the schedule
  • n: months elapsed since the start. One month is fixed at 30 days (2,592,000 seconds), and only the whole quotient of the elapsed time divided by 30 days is counted
The cumulative amount V unlocked by time t is then: Three points in this formula are worth noting. First, a month is 30 days, not a calendar month. Second, the first monthly unlock comes not on the day the cliff ends but one month later, in month c + 1. Third, each monthly unlock is calculated from the total amount, not the remaining balance; instead of rounding month by month, the contract multiplies the total by the cumulative fraction. When releases finish, the total released is therefore exactly the total amount. Unlocked tokens are transferred to the beneficiary when anyone calls release or releaseMany.

5. Circulating supply cap

Adding up the release curves of the seven allocations gives the cap on circulating supply at each point in time.

Figure 31. The circulating supply cap starts at 5.00% on TGE and passes 27.25% in month 12, 54.58% in month 24 and 92.50% in month 48 before reaching 100% in month 60.

Circulating supply at TGE is 50,000,000 TIP (5.00%). In the first month, monthly releases from the Liquidity & MM and Marketing allocations bring it to 5.63%. The Ecosystem allocation starts releasing in month 4, and the Private Sale and Partnership allocations in month 7, bringing the total to 27.25% in month 12. When the Foundation and Team allocations join in month 13, releases reach their fastest pace. The total passes 54.58% in month 24, 74.17% in month 36 and 92.50% in month 48, and reaches 100% in month 60. These figures are a cap that assumes every allocation releases as fast as its default terms allow. Appendix C contains the monthly table.

Figure 32. New supply peaks at about 29.44 million TIP a month (2.94% of supply) in months 13–16, when the Foundation and Team allocations join, and falls from month 17 once the Private Sale release has ended.

6. TGE (listing day)

The TGE of each vesting contract is set once the first exchange listing is confirmed. The TGE cannot be set to a time earlier than the present. It can be reset until that time arrives, but it cannot be changed once that time has passed. No schedule starts before the TGE is set, so no TIP has yet been released from any of the seven contracts. The TGE is set per contract, but Ti plans to set the same date in all seven and will publish the setting transactions.

7. Token sale

Private Sale tokens are delivered from the Private Sale vesting contract on a schedule for each participant. No schedule can be faster than the allocation’s default terms (a 6-month cliff followed by linear monthly release over 10 months). Round 1 covers 20 million of the 100 million TIP in the Private Sale allocation, and the terms of later rounds will be published once confirmed. Unsold tokens remain in the same contract, and burning them requires the burn function, which carries a 72-hour delay.

8. Treasury management

Released TIP goes only to the beneficiary of each schedule. Operational allocations such as liquidity and marketing are paid through schedules whose beneficiary is a dedicated operations Safe. The Liquidity operations Safe and the Marketing operations Safe are 2-of-3 multisig wallets owned by the same three people as the Governance Safe, and they hold no administrative rights over the token or the vesting contracts. Every outflow from the operations Safes is recorded on the blockchain for anyone to see. Ti plans to compile and publish the released amounts and their use, by allocation, on a regular basis.
